This had to be one of the more memorable nights of my life. I'll never be able to look at another collection of cars with equal awe and wonder, as I have personally witnessed probably the best, presented in an unparalleled form.

I have rallied with Scott George and Miles Collier for the past few years. They usually bring a little (original) Mini Cooper, and drive it like madmen, usually beating V-8 powered monsters at the track events. I knew Miles was a wealthy man, and that Scott was the curator of Miles' museum. I didn't really put ita all together until now. I was unprepared for the scope and breadth of the cars, and had no conception of their presentation... it was never converyed by these two "regular guys" in their fun little Mini.

Most "car museums" are somewhere between a parking lot and a wharehouse... cars arranged on a flat surface with minimal attempts at "presenting" them any more than that. I'm OK with that for the most part... cars are cars. I like to look at cars, and car-related things, such as engines, photos, memorabilia, etc.

This museum, however is unique. The Collier's are a family with a long and personal history with motorsports. They have a passion for it, and have been involved with some of the most famous people and events in sports car racing. This museum presents the cars in a very personal, approachable way... telling stories and providing a level of detail rarely encountered. All the displays were minimal in nature, with a car, a pedestal containing info, tasteful lighting, and perhaps a photo to show the car in context. Indeed, it was truly an "art gallery" with the art being presented that of automotive engineering and design.

We arrived and were shown to the galleries where the Porsche collection resided. I had just began shooting photos when we were called upstairs to dinner. We were given an envelope with a number and were seated according to this number, in a seemingly completely random order. I was lucky enough to be seated diagonally across from Scott George and was able to chat with him a bit about the collection. Dinner was excellent. The conversation wonderful... but I was itching to get out and look at the rest of the cars.

I really can't adequately describe what I saw, and in many ways the pictures do not do it justice, but here you go... enjoy!
