The 500sl was a dream to drive. It turned a stunning performance on the track. Excellent acceleration, amazing braking. It is truly stunning how much automotive technology has progressed in the 50-some years since the XK-120 appeared on the scene. The Jaguar is basically a high-performance tractor... a very strong engine, with a primitive drivetrain and suspension, mated to a sleek boody, styled to Sir William Lyon's whimsey. This 500sl is like a modern fighter jet by comparison.
